OpenAI Acquires Tomoro and Launches $4B AI Deployment Venture
OpenAI consolidates its enterprise AI strategy with the acquisition of applied AI consultancy Tomoro and a $4 billion funding round. The ChatGPT maker will establish a new subsidiary staffed by 150 engineers from Tomoro, deploying AI solutions directly inside client organizations including Tesco, Virgin Atlantic, and Mattel.
TPG leads a consortium of 19 investors including Goldman Sachs, SoftBank, and Bain Capital backing the initiative. The war chest will fund acquisitions to accelerate corporate AI integration as OpenAI shifts focus from model access to implementation.
